Extend Your Homemade Beauty Products With One Ingredient

If you’re a fan of natural and organic products, you can likely find products in your cabinet with citric acid as an active ingredient. Citric acid is often used as a natural preservative in organic skincare products to replace harsh chemical preservatives.

If you make a few of your own beauty and personal care products, you will love how citric acid can enhance the lifespan of your homemade natural products.

Preserve Your Homemade Cleanser

Without citric acid, you need to store your homemade cleanser in the fridge to prevent spoilage. There are times when we forget to do that and find it rancid the next day. Simply add a teaspoon of citric acid and leave your cleanser where it is supposed to be.

Make Your Lotions Last Longer

A teaspoon of citric acid can add a nice thickness to your favorite lotion formula. My favorite mix is the combination of mango, kokum, shea butters, coconut oil, and a teaspoon of citric acid.

Bath Bombs

A usual mix of bath bombs contain granulated sugar, cornstarch, baking soda, and citric acid. You can also add clary sage, camphor, and grapefruit essential oil to enhance the product. Bath bombs are brightening and soothing for your skin.

Brightening Body Scrub

Citric acid’s ability to remove dead skin makes it a great addition to your body scrub. Simply add sugar or salt with your favorite essential oils and there you have a scrub that can be stored outside of the fridge.

Get Rid of Foot Odor
Adding a couple drops of citric acid to your footbath works wonders to prevent unwanted foot odor. A mix of citric acid, arrowroot powder, and lemon essential oil makes a great footbath that can help with your blood circulation after a long day.
